    BRIDGEWATER -- Elizabeth M. (Young) Johnson, 91, formerly of Middleboro, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Bridgewater Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the widow of William H.H. Johnson Jr. and daughter of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Skelly) Young.
    She was born in New Milford, Conn., and lived in Middleboro for more than 72 years.
    Mrs. Johnson worked as an assembler at Winthrop-Atkins Co. and more recently worked at Ocean Spray Cranberry Co. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro.
    Her hobby was gardening.
    Mrs. Johnson is survived by a son, William H.H. Johnson III of Middleboro; a daughter, Betty Belrose of Galena, Mo., formerly of Middleboro; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
    A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church, Centre Street, Middleboro.
    Arrangements are by the Egger Funeral Home, 61 Pearl St., Middleboro.

    Jennie Connolly, 102


    SOMERSET -- Jennie H. Connolly, 102, formerly of Fall River, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, at Clifton Rehabilitative Nursing Center. She was the wife of the late John E. Connolly and daughter of the late Timothy and Ellen (Fox) Lowney.
    She was the sister-in-law of the late Most Reverend James L. Connolly, bishop of Fall River Diocese.
    Mrs. Connolly was born in Fall River, where she lived most of her life. She also lived briefly in New Bedford and moved to Somerset in 1975.
    She was a graduate of Holy Name High School in New Bedford and the Teachers Training School in Fall River. She earned a bachelor's degree from Calvin Coolidge College.
    Mrs. Connolly worked for more than 25 years as an elementary school teacher in Fall River. She taught at the William S. Green and William Connell Schools until her retirement in 1968.
    She was a communicant of Saint Thomas More Church in Somerset and its Women's Guild. She was an honorary member of the Fall River Catholic Women's Club. Mrs. Connolly was a member of the Bristol County and National Retired Teachers Associations; the Somerset chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons; and the Somerset Women's Club.
    Survivors include her dear friend Catherine Connelly of Somerset; and several grandnieces and grand nephews.
    Her funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Saint Thomas More Church, 386 Luther Ave.
    Arrangements are by the Rose E. Sullivan Funeral Home, 866 County St.

    NEW BEDFORD -- Mary R. "Bebe" (Silva) Watkins, 87, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at her home.
    She was the wife of the late Thomas S. "Steve" Watkins and the daughter of the late Thuribio J. and Gertrude (Fortes) Silva.
    Born in New Bedford, she was a lifelong resident of the city.
    She was an auxiliary member of the Improved Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, William H. Carney Lodge.
    Survivors include two sisters, Eva Lopes and Dorothy Duarte, both of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister of the late Arthur Silva, Thuribio Silva, Dominga Guyette Dade, Juliana Britto, Salvadore Silva and Priscilla Watkins.
    Arrangements are by the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St.

    Mary I. Mullen


    FALL RIVER -- Mary Isabel (Emmett) Mullen, 89, of Fall River, died in this city Monday, Oct. 20, 1997. She was the widow of Edward P. Mullen Jr. and daughter of the late Robert and Alice (Lawton) Emmett.
    Born in Fall River, she lived in Somerset more than 70 years.
    She graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School in 1924, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fall River and its Philathea Class.
    Mrs. Mullen was a legal secretary for many prominent Fall River attorneys for more than 40 years until her retirement in 1967.
    She was a president of the Wilbur School Parent Teacher Association in Somerset and was active in the Somerset High School PTA, having served as an officer for many years. She was a secretary of the Somerset Women's Club, and a life member of the Order of Bethlehem Chapter 151, Somerset, from 1951 until 1970. The chapter later merged with Weetamoe Chapter 57, also of Somerset.
    Mrs. Mullen and her husband celebrated their last anniversary together on Oct. 8, 1982. At that time they had been married for 53 years.
    Survivors include three daughters, Helen A. Bouchard of Fall River, Mary E. Wetterland of Tiverton, R.I., and Nancy J. Roberts of Westport; a son, Edward P. Mullen III of Somerset; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a lifelong friend Helen Calder of Fall River.
    Arrangements are by the Hathaway Community Home for Funerals, 900 Buffinton St., Somerset.

    Maria Natalia Oliveira


    FALL RIVER -- Maria Natalia (Cordeiro) Oliveira, 62, of Oak Grove Avenue, formerly of June Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997, at the Crestwood Nursing Home. She was the wife of Manuel Oliveira of Fall River, and daughter of Irminia (Monis) Cordeiro of Sao Miguel, Azores, and the late Manuel Rodriques Cordeiro.
    Born in Arrifes, Sao Miguel, she lived in Fall River 19 years and was a communicant of St. Michael Church.
    Mrs. Oliveira was employed by Clearview Manufacturing for three years.
    Besides her widower and mother, survivors include; a daughter, Maria O. Santos of Fall River; two brothers, Joseph Cordeiro of Canada and Daniel Cordeiro of Sao Miguel; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister of the late Manuel and Gil Cordeiro
    A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. today at St. Michael Church.
    Arrangements are by Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home, 1521 N. Main St.

    Mary Santos


    NEW BEDFORD -- Mary Santos, 77, died Monday, Oct. 20, 1997, at Bedford Village Nursing Home. She was the daughter of the late Valentino and Adelina (Castro) Santos.
    She was a lifelong resident of New Bedford and formerly was a stitcher for Paul Modes. She was a communicant of St. Mary's Church.
    Survivors include two brothers, Antonio Santos and Albert Santos, both of New Bedford; a sister, Rose Medeiros of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
    She was the sister of the late Ezaura Sylvia, Domingos Santos, John Santos and Manuel Santos.
    A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m. today at St. Mary's Church.
    Arrangements are by Boulevard Funeral Home, 223 Ashley Blvd.
    The church in which Ms. Santos' funeral will be held was omitted in Wednesday's obituary.

    Kathryn K. Haskell


    BROCKTON -- Kathryn K. (Kirshkaln) Haskell of Westport, formerly of East Bridgewater, died unexpectedly in this city Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997. She was 34.
    She was the former wife of Steven Haskell and the daughter of William R. and Isabelle (Leland) Kirshkaln of East Bridgewater.
    Ms. Haskell was born in Brockton. She graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1981 and Franklin Pierce College in 1993. She moved to Westport 1½ years ago. She worked as an assistant underwriter for Quincy Mutual Insurance Co.
    Ms. Haskell enjoyed reading, bicycling and working out.
    Survivors include her parents; a son, Steven Haskell; a daughter, Stephanie Haskell; two sisters, Leslie (Karen) LaPlante of Rochester and Amy L. Kirshkaln of East Bridgewater; two brothers, Jon Kirshkaln of Bridgewater and David F. Kirshkaln of Middleboro; her grandmothers, Hazel R. Leland of Bridgewater and Ruth E. Kirshkaln of East Bridgewater; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and her close friend, Mark DeJesus.
    A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church, North Central Street, East Bridgewater.
    Arrangements are by the Wales-Prophett Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater.
    The names of several of Ms. Haskell's survivors were omitted in Wednesday's obituary.

    Albert R. Getty


    FREETOWN -- Albert R. Getty, 64, a resident of Assonet Village, died at home Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997. He was the husband of Teri (Alves) Getty and the son of the late Glendon and Norma (Trefrey) Getty.
    Mr. Getty was born in Malden and lived in Assonet for the past 22 years. He had previously lived in Fall River and Hudson, N.H.
    He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church. He was also a member of the Billerica Lodge of Elks.
    Mr. Getty worked at Raytheon Corp. in Bedford for 25 years, retiring earlier this year due to illness.
    He was a sergeant and paratrooper in the U.S. army during the Korean War, during which he received the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and two bronze service stars.
    Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Anne Aloi of Charlottesville, Va.; two sons, Mark E. Sullivan of North Attleboro and Albert M. "Tiger" Getty of Fall River; two brothers, Robert Getty of Essex and Donald Getty of California; a sister, Dorothy Cormier of New Hampshire; and three grandchildren.
    A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard Church, Assonet.
    Arrangements are by the Hathaway Home For Funerals, 1813 Robeson Street, Fall River.

    Michael A. Sol

    NEW BEDFORD -- Michael A. Sol, 39, of Acushnet, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 1997, after a long illness at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the son of Antonio A. Sol, a former Rochester selectman, and Pauline T. (Manchester) Sol of Rochester.
    Born in New Bedford, he lived in Rochester and moved to Acushnet five years ago.
    He was formerly employed by Weymouth Concrete Company for 19 years as a truck driver.
    A graduate of Bristol County Agricultural School, he was class valedictorian. He was a member and former secretary of the Future Farmers of America, and he volunteered his services at the New Bedford Office of Tourism for two years.
    He enjoyed riding motorcycles and also helping his father at Sol Brothers Farm.
    Survivors include his parents; three brothers, Steven E. Sol, of Rochester, Bruce Sol and Eric Sol, both of Acushnet; a sister, Karen P. Surprenant of New Bedford; a maternal grandmother, Margaret M. (LeBlanc) Manchester of New Bedford; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
    A funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. on Friday at the Rock Funeral Home.
    Arrangements are by the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd.
